In the time of Charlemagne, September was “the harvest month.” In most of the modern world, September marks the start of the academic year. And here, in the U.S., we celebrate “Better Breakfast Month” and National Bourbon and California Wine month.
September brings NIBA’s Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting took place this year on Sept. 13 at the CME Group Building in Chicago. When it was time for the keynote speech, Rick Santelli, CNBC commentator rocked the house. Rick was more than informational -- he is entertaining and very gracious. Thanks also to the CME Group for providing the facility and a terrific luncheon speak, Alison Coughlin of the exchange. A full wrap-up appears in this issue of the NIBA newsletter.
We also saw two Commissioners confirmed and sworn into office by the CFTC early this month which completes and fills the five-person Commission.
- Dawn Stump comes from Stump Strategic, a consulting firm she founded after terms at the FIA and the NYSE. She was also a staffer on the Ag Senate Committee, where she worked on two farm bills and the reauthorization of the CFTC, as well as Dodd-Frank related issues.
- Dan Berkovitz served as General Counsel of the CFTC from 2009-2013. He was previously a partner and co-chair of the futures and derivatives practice at the law firm of WilmerHale, and served in the Energy Department, Office of Environmental Management.
We’re forming a working committee to plan and implement our spring membership meeting scheduled for April 10 at the New York Athletic Club. To suggest speakers or topics, or to volunteer for the committee, contact me, melinda@futuresrep.com or Mike Burke, mikeb@highgroundtrading.com.
So, “Better Breakfast Month/National Bourbon Month”...a co-incidence?
Best, Melinda
