When January and February were added to the Roman calendar and November became the eleventh month of the year, it retained its original Latin name novem meaning nine -- I think I’ve got that right this month Rob! (See last month’s correction) November in the United States means Thanksgiving, National Apple Cider Day (18th) and Black Friday (23th).
Most of us are also familiar with Cyber Monday, the biggest online shopping day of the year. But Cyber Tuesday, organized and presented by DePaul University, Downtown Campus is a not-to-be missed event for NIBA members. Now in its 5th year, this year’s program theme is CyberRisk Evolution, and it will focus on four main topics:
* Emerging cyber threats
* Supply chain security
* Evolving Insurance
* Privacy Issues
I’ve enjoyed all the previous years’ events, and find that perspective from businesses which include but are not solely focused on the financial industry, is very helpful in understanding the range, evaluation and response to a threat we must handle in offices everyday.
Organized through the Arditti Center for Risk Management, the November 27th event is an all-day affair. NIBA members receive a discounted entry fee when they register.
NFA announced nominations for their 2019 Board of Directors. There are two FCM positions to be filled, one IIB spot, two CPO/CTA spots and two SD/MSP/RFED positions. Mike Burke, our current IIB representative has been re-nominated. Any petitions for candidates not listed in the announcement must be submitted to the NFA by November 28th. NIBA will post position papers of the candidates, if required by the NFA, on our website.
Save-the-date: April 10 for NIBA in NYC. Contact Mike, mikeb@highgroundtrading.com, Steve, spetillo@straitsfinancial.com or me, melinda@futuresrep.com to suggest a topic, a speaker or to volunteer to help out on the day of the meeting.
So with a turkey leg in one hand and a (spiked) cider in the other, I’m looking forward to November’s NIBA/industry events!
Best, Melinda
