9:00 AM: What’s on the Radar at NFA Compliance Supervisors Rob DeMuria leads a panel discussion on current events in the regulatory space. Top compliance and regulatory experts will shed light on what they are seeing in the field, especially as it relates to what seems to be on the radar for NFA audit teams. Implementing sound internal controls in your compliance and financial infrastructure is a re-occurring topic being seen in the field and will be discussed in detail. 10:00 AM: Managed Futures-To Trend or Not to Trend Managed Futures industry leader Andrew Strasman will be facilitating a discussion on Trend Following. The title says it all, “To Trend or Not To Trend.” This panel will open with a brief review of the definition of “Trend”, using the www.40in20out.com academic project as a guide. Traders from both trend and non-trend trading programs then debate the pros and cons of the approach. We will also hear from a representative of the investment community who has invested in both categories of managers and will share his thoughts from the investors’ perspective. 11:00 AM: Compliance Debate Inspired by this year’s Presidential Debates the NIBA is hosting a compliance debate at this year’s 25th anniversary conference. Industry regulators, attorney’s, consultants and industry representatives will be up on one stage to debate relevant topics and scenarios. There will be arguments made for Pros and Cons of a number of issues. The scenarios will largely focus on grey area matters where multiple rules and/or regulations could apply. This is set to be the last session of the morning agenda and one that promises to be very informative, interesting and fun. 12:00 PM: Lunch and Brexit Presentation by Erik Norland, Executive Director and Senior Economist of CME Group On June 23rd 51.9% of U.K. voter elected to leave the European Union, provoking the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron and a plunge in the value of the British pound. More than two months later, the U.K.’s new Prime Minister has still not invoked Article 50, to begin the formal process of leaving the E.U. What’s next for Brexit? When will Article 50 be invoked? Will it be invoked? Once negotiations begin, how long will they really take and what sort of relationship will emerge between the U.K. and the E.U.? How will various scenarios impact currency, fixed income and equity markets? |
12:45 PM: CME GCC Presentation CME will discuss the function of the Global Command Center and dive into some of the policies and safeguards the exchange has in place to protect the integrity of its markets as well as support brokers and traders. This will cover functionality such as price banding, an in depth look at stop orders and why they will not always fill and a discussion about the circuit breakers that have been put in place in certain markets. 1:40PM: NFA Rep Panel As a member firm, you elected our industry representatives to serve on the Board of Directors at the NFA. Our elected representatives will discuss what they have had success with and are working on in their roles on the BoD. This has been a recurring session at the NIBA September conference and has been a great success in years past. If there is anything you would like to know or are curious about how the NFA BoD operates this is the session for you. There will be an open Q&A with the audience to augment the session towards the end of the panel, so come prepared and our reps will answer any questions you may have to the best of their ability.
